Editor’s note: This legacy cooler review is not a current product test and should not be read as a Maxtor performance claim. Cooler specifications, prices and availability change.
A better way to evaluate a CPU cooler interface
- Confirm socket compatibility and the complete mounting hardware.
- Check whether the base is intended for grease, a pad or a pre-applied interface.
- Compare the cooler’s rated thermal design guidance with the processor maker’s requirements.
- Check case clearance, fan power connection and airflow direction before purchase.
Installation is part of the result
Clean both mating surfaces, use the specified interface amount and tighten the mount evenly. A cooler cannot correct poor contact, an incorrect bracket or insufficient case airflow. If a cooler is removed, clean and reapply fresh material when the instructions require it.
Do not transfer historical benchmark numbers from this page to a different processor, cooler, room or workload. Use current manufacturer documentation and repeatable measurements for a real comparison.
For a replacement grease used with a correctly specified CPU cooler, see Maxtor CTG8. For a business or repair application, send the interface details to Technical Help.
